Snorkeling Paradise at Nosy Tanikely

Do you keep a travel diary ? I do. And this is an excerpt of my trip with my husband to Nosy be in December 2023.

Day 1: The Journey Begins

It’s our first day on this enchanting island of Nosy Be. My husband and I have just endured a grueling 24-hour road trip to get here, but the anticipation keeps us going. The main island welcomes us with open arms, and we decide to take it easy today—just chilling, recovering from the long journey.

Day 2: Paradise Awaits

The alarm jolts us awake at 6:30 a.m., but it’s a welcome sound. Today, we’re bound for Nosy Tanikely—a slice of heaven on earth. We hop into a tuk-tuk and head to a nearby pastry shop for breakfast. The rendezvous with our speedboat is set for 8:30 a.m., and we can’t wait.

At 8:30 a.m., Madirokely Beach is alive with energy. Tourists from all corners of the globe—mostly Europeans—gather, their eyes shining with anticipation. Our guide, Manuella, ensures everything is on track. Speedboats bob in the water, ready to whisk us away to different islands. Our boat awaits, and we step aboard, hearts racing.



Directly to Nosy Tanikely




While some passengers are bound for Nosy Komba, we’ve been there before. Nosy Tanikely beckons—a familiar paradise. Snorkeling gear in hand, we’re ready to explore the underwater wonders. But here’s the hiccup: the long road trip has swollen my feet, and my snorkeling palms no longer fit. I’m frustrated, on the verge of tears. My husband saves the day by renting a spare pair of snorkeling palms, and we’re back in business.



An Underwater Wonderland



And then we plunge into the crystal-clear waters. It’s like swimming in a live aquarium. The coral formations dance with color, and sea creatures abound. I swim alongside a graceful ray, follow a sea turtle’s languid glide, and marvel at the vibrant fish and sea anemones. Nosy Tanikely lives up to its reputation—a snorkeler’s dream.

This our second time here, but the magic remains. These memories—etched in our travel diaries—will forever remind us of the beauty that lies beneath the waves.
